Reflective Frequencies (2001) by Solar Fields
Both a grand new discovery and a joyous nostalgia trip (with an emphasis on the trip), Reflective frequencies recaptures the days when an outfit called FSOL was emitting similarly free-flowing soundshapes. With this sparkling production, Solar Fields achieves an admirable balance between amorphously undulating contours and tasteful beatronic sensibilities. Wondrous stuff. These stunners just drift from one into the next... pillowy riffles emanate from luscious 6.7 and are soon underscored by thundery rhythms. Dreamy, streamy Floating channels recieve an energetic synthsequence injection. Big, buoyant and beaty ...Red vortex is another enticing blend of sweltering gaseousness peppered with percussive effects. Releasing soft-edged, downtempo drum emissions from within its cloudy interior, Echoing spectrum seeps into the buzzy, beguiling Inherit velocity (2:39) backed by compelling beats. This trek's not all smoothness and light though... the twilight realm of Overlapping particles gets a bit chaotic before submerging into a deep inner spaciness. Bassy waves and quiet alien resonance mark the entry into Outlined surfaces (7:48) which is further enhanced by organic electroblurts, sweet piano trails and intermittent rhythm structures. Hauntingly gorgeous tones wisp through closing number Breathing neutron empire, their spiraling tendrils swaying to faint time-keeping elements. Stick around for a brief "hidden" finale' of tonal washes. Magnus Birgersson is the main man behind Solar Fields's mind-blowing, ever-evolving environments
