Having founded and spent several years with pioneering trance act, the Green Nuns, Matt gained an understanding of how repetitive cycles of music can create a trance - like state, drawing the listener into a virtual if not actual hypnosis. Having explored techniques of changing the resonance and timbre of sound rather than the note or rhythm, and the effect this has on the psyche without breaking the spell of the trance, he decided to explore the power of sound as a therapeutic tool. This exploration, coupled with a growing interest and involvement with reiki and other healing arts, led to the creation of this deeply relaxing and meditative ambient album. Music for a Busy Head includes seven works, each of which is written in a key that resonates with one of the 7 main chakras of the body. Beginning with the crown chakra and working down to the base (following a pattern used by most reiki practitioners), by listening to the whole album the listener will have received a subtle chakra balance. All the tempos are below 65 bpm- the average heart rate at rest, which will help to lower the metabolism of the listener. Such a tempo can also induce a state of semi-consciousness, a state in which the human body does its own best healing work. Sounds used on this album include nye flutes, acoustic guitars, gamelan, tibetan bells and bowls, celtic harps and swedish lyres. For the base, sweeping resonant synths were introduced, which move gently over a number of harmonics having a subtle effect of balancing and attuning the body. The final ingredient was the intent to promote a state of relaxation in anybody who listens to the album. Matt's background as a trance musician, musical director and guitarist for brit pop winner gabrielle and a long history of compositions for television have provided the perfect base from which to dive into the realms of healing through sound. Matts journey into calmer waters was inspired by a reiki attunement and subsequent healing work. The result of which has produced this perfect accompaniment to massage, yoga, meditation, reiki and all forms of relaxation treatments. alternatively, music for a busy head will be equally appreciated as a timeless piece of experimental ambient music.
